You are not required to purchase tickets for every show your dancer is performing in—only for the show(s) you wish to attend as an audience member. Dancers will participate in both scheduled shows their class is assigned to (MINI, JUNIOR, INTER/SENIOR), but family and friends can choose to attend to watch one, both, or none, depending on preference. Parents are not allowed backstage.

If a dancer wishes to watch the show before or after their own performance, they will need a ticket. This is a venue requirement due to fire safety regulations: every audience member must have a purchased seat. Exception: Dancers under age 3 who can comfortably sit on an adult’s lap for the entire show will not require a ticket.

If you choose not to purchase tickets to watch the show(s), you are only required to bring your dancer for their scheduled performance time (arrival time will be outlined for each class in your Costume Pickup Email). Once your dancer has finished performing, you’re welcome to head out—you are not obligated to stay for the entire show if you do not wish to purchase a ticket to watch the show.

Please check the schedules carefully – make sure you purchase tickets for the correct show(s)!

🚨 Ticket Limit Notice:
There will be a limit of 4 tickets per dancer in place until May 6th at 10:00am. After that time, additional tickets may be purchased, based on availability. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure all families have the opportunity to attend! Once tickets go on sale, please purchase tickets early, as shows do sell out. The Studio is not responsible for parents/family members who cannot obtain a ticket due to limited availability.

COSTUMES, HAIR, AND MAKEUP

Recital costumes have started arriving at the Studio, and dancers have been trying them on during class. If any alterations are needed, we’ll take care of them before costumes are sent home. You will receive an email when your dancer’s costume is ready for pickup. Once you receive this Costume Pickup Email, payment can be made through your Parent Portal, via etransfer to info@premieredance.ca, or in person at the Peterborough Studio office. The email will also include details about the required shoes, tights, hairstyle, and approximate arrival/performance times for your routine.

At registration, a $50.00 costume deposit was paid per costume. The remaining balance will be billed to your account and must be paid in full before picking up the costume. All dance fees must also be up to date prior to pickup. Once you take your costume home, please store it safely and avoid using it for dress-up or play until after Recital—let’s keep them stage-ready!

PLEASE ARRANGE FOR PURCHASE & PICKUP OF YOUR COSTUME AT THE STUDIO—Peterborough or Millbrook – PRIOR TO DRESS REHEARSAL! Office hours for pick up will be outlined in your Costume Pickup Email.

Recital Hair, Makeup & Costume Guidelines

  • No jewelry (aside from comp team earrings) or nail polish should be worn during Dress Rehearsal or Recital shows.
  • Each dancer must have the correct shoes and tights for their routine. These details were sent in the March 28th email and will also be outlined in your Costume Pickup Email.
  • Dancewear essentials (tights, shoes, etc.) can be purchased at The Dancer’s Closet:
    📍 655 Parkhill Rd W, Peterborough
    ☎️ 705-755-1112

💆‍♀️ HAIR

Most dancers are required to wear their hair in a center-part, low bun for Recital. Specific hairstyle instructions for each class will be included in your Costume Pickup Email.

To create a center-part, low bun:

  • Part the hair straight down the center from the forehead.
  • Pull the hair back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.
  • Twist and wrap the ponytail into a neat bun, securing it with an elastic, hairnet and bun pins.
  • Use gel and hairspray to smooth flyaways and hold the style in place securely.
  • See video tutorial link below for additional guidance!

For dancers with short hair:
Hair should be styled and secured as neatly as possible using bobby pins, gel, and hairspray. If you’re unsure about what will work best, please speak to your teacher or the office.

💄MAKEUP

Stage lighting is very bright, so stage makeup is recommended to help define facial features. Suggested makeup includes:

  • Blush
  • Black eyeliner on upper lid with small wing
  • Mascara
  • Bright red lipstick (this is most important)
  • Optional: false eyelashes
  • Competitive dancers are required to wear full stage makeup for the Recital.

If you have any questions about hair, makeup, footwear, or costume requirements, please speak to your teacher or reach out to us at info@premieredance.ca

DRESS REHEARSAL

Please arrive at Showplace 30 minutes before your scheduled Dress Rehearsal time, fully ready in costume, hair, and makeup. Dress Rehearsal may run ahead of schedule. All dancers must arrive early and fully prepared. The Studio is not responsible for missed photos or rehearsals due to late arrival. Dress Rehearsal is a great time for you to practice doing your dancer’s hair and makeup in advance of the Recital Shows! Upon arrival, dancers should meet their group in the downstairs lounge, where they will have their professional photo taken.

Please note: Changing space at the venue is very limited, and all dancers must share the dressing rooms, regardless of how many routines they are in. For this reason, we kindly ask that dancers arrive fully dressed and prepared.

📸 Parent Note – Photos & Videos:
Parents are welcome and encouraged to take photos and videos during the Dress Rehearsal, as NO photography or video recording is permitted during the actual Recital performances.

Class & Portrait Photos at Dress Rehearsal

Edge Imaging will be joining us during Dress Rehearsal to capture class group photos and individual dancer portraits. Please refer to the attached schedule for your dancer’s designated photo time.

📷 Ordering Photos:
Photos will be ordered directly through Edge Imaging. Once the proofs are ready, they will be sent directly to you after Recital!

🚫 Please refrain from taking photos in the downstairs photo area, as personal cameras interfere with the photographers’ professional lighting equipment. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

RECITAL SHOWS – ARRIVAL & PERFORMANCE INFO

📍 Arrival & Drop-Off:

For Audience Members with Tickets:

  • If your dancer performs within the first 10 numbers:
    • Arrive 30-45 minutes before the show start time.
    • Drop your dancer off downstairs in the lounge, where they’ll wait with their group to stretch and prepare.
    • After dropping them off, head to your seat to enjoy the show!
  • If your dancer performs later in the show:
    • Arrive 15 minutes before the show start time.
    • Head to your seat to enjoy the beginning of the show!
    • About 10 dances before your dancer’s performance, bring them downstairs to the lounge where they’ll meet their group. You may then go back to your seat to watch their performance!
  • Backstage managers will escort dancers to and from the stage. There will be designated drop-off and pick-up spots downstairs. Parents are not allowed backstage.
  • After your dancer performs, please meet them at the designated pick-up spot downstairs. You’re then welcome to return to your seat to enjoy the rest of the show!
  • Remember that dancers who wish to watch the show before/after their performance will require a ticket.

For Those Not Purchasing Tickets (Just Dropping Off):

  • You’ll receive an estimated arrival time in your Costume Pickup Email.
  • Bring your dancer to the downstairs lounge area, where they’ll meet with their group.
  • Backstage managers will escort dancers to and from the stage. Parents are not allowed backstage.
  • A screen in the lobby will display the performance if you’d like to watch from there.
  • After your dancer performs, please meet them at the designated pick-up spot downstairs, and you’re free to leave after.

🚨 Important:
We cannot be responsible for dancers who miss their performance due to late arrival. Please arrive early and allow plenty of time to get settled!

All Recital shows include a 10-minute intermission.
Audience members may enter or exit between routines as needed throughout the show. Please be sure you remain seated while dancers are on stage performing!

🎥 Recital Recording:
All Recital performances will be professionally recorded, and each family will receive complimentary online access to their dancer’s show! Details on how to access the video will be sent via email approximately 3–5 weeks after the event. This allows you to relax and enjoy your dancer’s performance in the moment! No photo or video is permitted during the Recital performances.

CHANGEROOMS

Changerooms are available on the lower level of Showplace for dancers who are in more than one routine. Per Showplace policy, washrooms are not to be used as changerooms.

👯‍♀️ Changerooms are available for ALL PSD dancers with multiple routines. A portion of the downstairs lounge will also be sectioned off to provide additional changing space.

🔄 Please help us maximize space:

  • Showplace has limited changeroom capacity, so please minimize Rac n Roll bag use and share space whenever possible.
  • Dancers should arrive fully ready—with hair and makeup done and dressed in their first costume.

🔐 Please remember: Premiere Studio of Dance and Showplace are not responsible for lost or misplaced items. We recommend labeling all costume pieces and accessories clearly. Do not leave any belongings at Showplace overnight. All costumes and personal items must be taken home after each show.

VOLUNTEERS

🙋‍♀️ We are currently seeking volunteers to help support our Recital events! Volunteers are essential in ensuring the event runs smoothly, and we’d love your help with the following roles:

  • Supervising dancers in the downstairs lounge
  • Checking in groups and preparing dancers to go backstage
  • Front-of-house support, including ticket scanning at the theatre entrance before the shows

📍Please note: Volunteers will remain in the lobby, downstairs lounge, or drop-off & pick-up areas for the duration of the show and will not be able to view the performances from the audience or backstage.

If you’re available to help, please email info@premieredance.ca and let us know which show(s) you are available for. Your support makes a huge difference, and we sincerely thank you in advance for your time and energy!
